Vera Wang on Weddings
Vera Wang

What bride doesn't dream of walking down the aisle in a gown
by Vera Wang, the world's most sought after bridal designer? Vera Wang, who
single-handedly revolutionised the bridal industry with her chic,
sophisticated, stylish designs, shares her vision and ideas on every aspect
of this special day in a lavish volume produced with Callaway Editions, Ltd.
The world's most successful bridal gown designer shares her vision for this
most important event--the wedding. Rather than a soup-to-nuts approach with
endless lists of what to do, Vera Wang details each aspect of the wedding
with her thoughts and ideas, culled from years of experience in the wedding
business. From budgets and bouquets to cake and communication, Vera imparts
her wisdom and advice. All the traditional parts of planning a wedding -
invitations, registries, and music--are included, but what sets this book
apart from all the others are the little things she pays attention to. The
First Dance, The Bride Who Wears Glasses, Fittings (and weight
fluctuations!), The Garter ("Do I Have to Do That?") A wedding book by Vera
Wang wouldn't be complete without detail on the bride's gown. She explains
how to select the right neckline, construction, length, bodice, and
waistline for each bride's figure. What fabrics are appropriate for certain
times of day. How to choose among a veil, headband, flower blossoms or bows
for a headpiece. All of this is accompanied by hundreds of photographs that
illustrate Vera's vision. Vera offers advice on every aspect of this
important day. There are 75 essays on gowns, on veils, on waistlines, on
choosing a short or long dress, on dressing the bridal party, on rings, on
bouquets, on love, and more, with hundreds of glorious photographs.

The Wedding Guide for the Grownup Bride
by Shelley Christiansen
A new kind of wedding guide--for the millions
of women who marry (or remarry) at mid-life.
She may be beyond swooning and blushing--but even the most mature,
sophisticated bride can find herself rattled by the prospect of getting
married. And while grownup brides often bring more wisdom to the wedding,
they also face unique complications, as they deal with issues far more
profound than color schemes and corsages. This savvy, sensible guide helps
the process along, with in-the-know discussions of...
Habitats and habits: merging grownup lives with minimum stress and maximum
happiness
We've got enough towels: sensible gift and shower strategies
Other loves: dealing with exes, in-laws, steps...and even pets
Promises and prenups: love may be blind, but it doesn't have to be dumb
Married...to the job: establishing a marriage when you've already
established a career
The tough stuff: name changes, big white dresses, and other slightly
uncomfortable issues
And much more...

Going Bridal: How to Get Married Without
Losing Your Mind
Li Robbins
This
is NOT your ordinary bridal book. Then again, the bride who reads this is
not the ordinary bride. In this book you won't find out how to choose a
caterer or get organized. This is the answer to emotional overload! Speaking
of overload... what causes a seemingly normal, well-adjusted, level-headed
woman to become obsessed, frantic and emotionally unstable after her
boyfriend pops the question? She's obviously gone bridal! "Going Bridal" is
an actual syndrome, coined by journalist Li Robbins, and now for the first
time in her book, "Going Bridal", Robbins amuses, inspires and explains the
condition while identifying the four major causes of it, which include:
family-induced going bridal, vendor-induced going bridal, fiance (oh, yeah,
whatshisname) induced going bridal and friend-induced going bridal. Through
humorous and illustrative collections of advice and tips on ways to avoid
and minimize the condition, Robbins shares scenarios and experiences from
women who have galloped down the bridal path and lived to tell the tale. The
book details how even the most stable woman can easily fall from the "I'm so
happy to be engaged" moment into a full-blown "Going Bridal" mini-series.
With humour and compassion, the "Going Bridal" syndrome is put into
perspective, underscoring the importance of what's really significant - the
happiness that should surround a wedding. An alternative to traditional
wedding planners, etiquette guides and bridal magazines, this wedding
guidebook is useful for all brides who want to avoid the emotional and
psychological stress that inevitably comes with planning one of the biggest
days of their lives.

21st Century Bride
Ailsa Petchey, Sarah Mason
Today's bride is a very different creature from her predecessors. Statistics
show that modern women are getting married later in life, covering all or at
least some of the cost of the day themselves, have a sense of personal style
and know who they are and what they enjoy. They are less influenced by their
families and feel they can choose where, when and how to get married with
much greater freedom than ever before. There has been a lack of information
available for brides wanting to do things their way, but in this volume, two
bridal consultants aim to bring brides-to-be all the advice they need.
Basics such as setting budgets, choosing the dress, and finding the right
location are all covered, plus the book features sections on flowers, hair
and beauty, catering and much more. Hundreds of additional inspiring ideas
for theming the day and making it unique are presented in handy checklists
and at-a-glance guides, and also included are fun celebrity tips (including
words of wisdom from top chefs, florists and designers) and a comprehensive
sources section with thousands of useful contacts and websites.

What No One Tells the Bride: Surviving
the Wedding, Sex After the Honeymoon, Second Thoughts, Wedding Cake Freezer
Burn, Becoming Your Mother...
Marg Stark
From the Author:
Why I wrote What No One Tells the Bride:
I had dated every psycho man out there when I finally met Mr. Right. Even
so, adjusting to married life was no small matter. During the engagement and
first years of marriage, I worried that I was not as blissed out as everyone
expected me to be. I feared married life would subsume the the independent,
fiesty woman I had become when I was single. As much as I loved my fiance'/husband,
I was not prepared for the profound identity crisis my engagement ring
brought on. An incredible newlywed code of silence inhibited me and my newly
married friends from talking about our fears and adjustments.
I wrote What No One Tells the Bride to break this taboo and to reassure
brides that these adjustments are entirely normal. There is not necessarily
anything wrong with you or with your relationship if you are squabbling with
your mate, having second thoughts, resisting giving up your single life, or
dreaming about old flames. Interviewing 50 women who had been married five
years or less, I share the secrets no one usually tells the bride--the real
scoop on early married life and our tactics for building a lusty, happy,
lifelong marriage.
Most important, What No One Tells the Bride reassures newlyweds that they
need not kill themselves trying to be Martha Stewart by day, sexpot by
night. Your husband fell in love with you, not with the ideal you have of
the "perfect wife." The more you relax, the more you fall in love with him
rather than with your fairy tale, the happier you will be.

The Conscious Bride: Women Unveil Their
True Feelings About Getting Hitched (Women Talk About ...)
Sheryl Nissinen
This volume in New Harbinger's "Women Talk About" series offers a candid
look at what a bride can really expect to go through, told by women who've
been there. It's a reassuring guide to coping with the emotional ups and
downs that many women experience as they plan their wedding. For "The
Conscious Bride", Sheryl Nissinen interviewed a diverse group of women who
were on their way to the altar or who had made it down the aisle and past
the "I do's" to the other side. The frank discussion that results covers
concerns as varied as the mythology and rituals of the wedding itself, the
bride's fears about separating from family and friends, and the sometimes
cruel ironies of making the transformation from an independent, single woman
into that other status, that whatever-it-is a "wife" is supposed to be.

Buff Brides: The Complete Guide to
Getting in Shape and Looking Great for Your Wedding Day
Sarah Kelly (Foreword), Sue Fleming

Whether you want toned arms for your sleeveless gown or flat
abs for your honeymoon bikini, certified trainer Sue Fleming can help you
get in better shape for your wedding, even if you have only six months. This
slim (106-page) book presents a six-month strength-training daily workout
guide with cardio recommendations and a "crash program" if there’s only 12
weeks before the wedding. The strength-training exercises are basic,
beginning workouts using dumbbells, stability ball, step, and ankle weights,
all clearly explained and illustrated.
The cardio recommendations are very general--for instance, 75 minutes per
week for weeks five and six, doing one or two activities that raise your
heart rate for most of your workout, which should last at least 25 minutes.
Sadly, Fleming runs through just a few ways (walking, running, and biking)
to get aerobic exercise, but doesn't explore the huge array of cardio
options or give much detail on this essential fitness component. Recommended
for beginning exercisers who are committed to following a regular program
and need specific strength-training exercises.
